Haviland, Antique Extremely Rare Platinum "Thistle" Service, Early 1900s
An exceptional 70-piece Haviland "Thistle" service in platinum inlay, dating from the early 1900s as confirmed by the red seal mark on every piece. Each item is signed on the reverse and bears the inscription "incrustation véritable, double couverte platine, poli à l'agate" (genuine inlay, double platinum coating, agate-polished).
Created during the second half of the 19th century, the Thistle collection is one of the Haviland manufactory's signature inlaid designs. It features a perfectly balanced, elegant platinum Rococo-style frieze. This exceptional craftsmanship allows for intricate detailing on the porcelain, lending the platinum unparalleled relief. The brilliant platinum finish is achieved through two successive gilding applications followed by agate burnishing.
