A remarkable double-faced vessel from the Vicus culture of coastal Peru, dating to approximately 100 BC–400 AD. The form — globular, self-balancing, with two smiling faces applied to opposing sides — is characteristic of Vicus ceremonial production, in which formal ingenuity and spiritual function were inseparable. Traces of traditional face-paint decoration remain on both sides, preserving evidence of the object's original ritual context.
