Lalique, Marrakech Vase, France 1980
A beautiful Lalique crystal vase, “Marrakech” model, designed by Marie-Claude Lalique, daughter of Marc Lalique and granddaughter of René Lalique. A tall, clear crystal body rests on a heavy, thick base. On each side, satin-finished (frosted) motifs in the shape of stylised wings rise up and sweep around the body. The contrast between the polished clear crystal and the frosted relief catches the light beautifully.

About Lalique:
The Maison Lalique was founded by René Lalique (1860-1945), one of the great artists of his time, first as a jeweller of the Art Nouveau period and then as a master glassmaker. He began exhibiting under his own name in the 1890s, and his stand at the 1900 Paris Universal Exhibition was a great success. After the First World War he turned to glass and became a leading figure of Art Deco. His work includes vases, perfume bottles, car mascots for Citroën, and decoration for the Côte d’Azur Pullman Express and the liner Normandie. Collaboration between generations is a tradition in the family, from René and his daughter Suzanne to Marc Lalique and his daughter Marie-Claude. Marie-Claude carried on the family’s inspiration from nature and its taste for combining clear and coloured crystal.
