Georges Gori, Sculpture “Lady with Two Borzoi”, France Art Deco 1920s

€5,500.00

A very large and elegant Art Deco sculptural group in shelter, resin, marble and alabaster, signed by Georges Gori.

A graceful woman in a long, flowing gown with flared sleeves walks two slender borzoi (Russian wolfhounds) on a gilt chain lead. Her dress is finely worked in a gilt and dark patina, with floral decoration and a textured hem. The two dogs have a silvery grey patina, and her face and hands are in a warm ivory tone. The composition has movement and elegance, typical of the Art Deco taste for elegant women walking sleek hounds. The group stands on a stepped base of black and gold veined marble, with white marble edging and a central panel of alabaster, on four small round feet.

Georges Gori was a French sculptor of Italian descent, active in Paris in the 1920s and 1930s. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français and is known for Art Deco figures and groups.
