A beautiful and rare Art Nouveau sculptural vide-poche by Albert Marionnet, worked in gilded, silvered and patinated bronze. The principal motif — a peacock displayed above a fountain — speaks to the Symbolist preoccupations of the period, in which nature, ornament and function were conceived as one.
Marionnet has signed the piece on several individual elements, attesting to the intentionality of each component. The metal surface carries a natural oxidation entirely consistent with age and of no detriment to the work.
